Red beans (adzuki) have an interesting history dating back to the Heian period, and are even mentioned in the poetry anthology Manyoshu. Adzuki are said to ward off evil primarily due to their bright color. They’re also served with rice for life milestones such as births and weddings as a symbol of good luck, and of course, we’re all familiar with how they’re served in mochi—red bean paste (anko) actually started as monks’ substitute for meat in steamed buns. 

Based on this delicacy’s continuous history, Sailor released the limited edition Pro Gear Slim Manyo III Red Bean. It has a lilac-pink barrel and a translucent lilac barrel end, section, and cap. It features rhodium-plated trims and a rhodium-plated, 14-karat gold nib. The cap finial is foil stamped with the image of red beans.
