Persimmon (kaki), known as the “fruit of the gods”, is popular and common in Japan, and has been the backdrop of many art pieces, poems, and songs through the centuries. It finds many mentions in the Manyosho, a compilation of classical Japanese poetry, and continues to inspire many artists who interpret day-to-day life in their works.
The Sailor Pro Gear Slim Manyo Persimmon fountain pen is another interpretation of this traditional symbol. It features a blue-purple barrel contrasted by a translucent orange barrel end, section, and cap, representing the bright and lively color of the fruit. A foiled icon of the persimmon is also seen on the finial.
