Izumo is a city in the western prefecture of Shimane in Japan that figures in many legends and myths. The Kojiki, which is the country’s oldest written record, mentions Izumo many times, including how its ancient earthly ruler Ōkuninushi offers the land to the god Amaterasu, thus creating the Japan we know of today.
Platinum has a fountain pen collection honoring Izumo as the land of gods. Created with the help of the city’s artisans, each pen showcases different crafts—whether impeccable woodwork, ebonite carving, or traditional urushi techniques. Part of the collection is the Platinum Izumo Yoguwa (western mulberry), a Japan-only release made from highly durable mulberry wood dried for 20 days before being carved into the pen’s silhouette. This was then polished by hand using sandpaper prior to being primed, fitted, and finished with urethane paint, which uses urethane resin as its primary binder.
We have for sale a pre-owned Platinum Izumo Yoguwa. As this is a limited release, this pen is very hard to find. We’re offering only the pen and its converter, no box or papers.
