Aizu lacquering is a 400-year-old artform known for its unique designs that are unapologetically intricate. It encompasses many techniques, including Aizu-e, which often features floral patterns, and maki-e, which uses gold or silver powder to interpret patterns.
We see this attention to detail on the Platinum 3776 Aizu Maki-e Aonofu, with its abstract pattern made from silver dust and with one side painted with a streak of gold. The pattern is backdropped by solid blue over black and finished with high-quality urushi. One of two designs (Akanofu is the red version), Aonofu has gold trims and carries an 18-karat gold nib.
We have for sale a Platinum 3776 Aizu Maki-e Aonofu with an M nib. It comes complete with its box and papers.
Length capped: 14.5 cm.
