The Nakaya Portable Cigar Lotus Maki-e Kuro-Tamenuri is very similar to the Portable Cigar Kuro-Tamenuri, but it holds a hidden gem—a beautiful maki-e of a lotus blossom against a background of gold flecks on its section. This complements the minimalist Tamenuri finish, which requires layers upon layers of lacquer, mimicking what one sees at the bottom of a clear lake. “Kuro” in “Kuro-Tamenuri”  means “black”, describing the color of both the cap and the body. Kuro-Tamenuri, then, produces a crisp, inky color that creates the illusion of depth, especially with the crimson peeking from the cap and section edges.
