Dublin-borne Oscar Wilde was a brilliant scholar and a literary giant whose works were celebrations of flamboyance and wit. His satirical comedies “Lady Windermere’s Fan” and “The Importance of Being Earnest” were successes, but it was his novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” that shook its audiences during its release in the 1890s. Critics called it “immoral” due to its unapologetic dive into queerness and its defiance to Victorian norms. It was widely banned, so much so that the author had to remove passages that were considered shocking. Despite this, the book endured and stood the test of time.
Today “The Picture of Dorian Gray” is considered a Gothic literature classic, and Oscar Wilde is of the most respected authors of the Victorian era. In honor of his works and his exploration of the pursuit of beauty and pleasure, Montblanc released the Writers Edition Oscar Wilde, which features a shape inspired by the aesthetics of the 1800s. It has gold trims and an 18-karat gold nib etched with the image of a feather, which represents Wilde’s interest in flamboyance.
