Andrew Carnegie was known as one of the richest Scottish-American industrialists of the 19th century, investing in railroads and bridges, and promoting the expansion of the American steel industry. More than this, however, he was known as a philanthropist in the United States and in Europe. In the last two decades of his life, he gave away 90 percent of his fortune, focusing on building libraries and working for education and the arts. Carnegie funded the Peace Palace in The Hague as well as the famous Carnegie Hall in New York City, among others.
In honor of his many achievements, Montblanc launched the Patron of Art Tribute to Andrew Carnegie. Each version released features a solid, 18-karat white gold overlay formed in the shape of a woman with butterfly wings in the Art Nouveau style, which was popular during the era and one of many that Carnegie favored. What we have is the version that has a black precious resin body.
For sale is a New Old Stock Montblanc Patron of Art Tribute to Andrew Carnegie fountain pen (2002) with a two-tone 18-karat, rhodium-plated gold nib in M that’s engraved with a lily, a typical Art Nouveau motif. It comes with its inner box, outer box, and booklet.
Length capped: 14.8 cm.
