Known as the influential nephew of Pope Paul V, Scipione Borghese was a 17-th century Italian cardinal who was a popular patron of artists during the Baroque era. He fostered the career of the sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and amassed a collection of Caravaggio’s works. He was a highly controversial figure who, due to his obsession with art, was known to resort to illegal means of acquiring it (including theft). He built the Villa Borghese, which houses the Galleria Borghese, a museum that showcases his extensive collection that still stands today.
The Montblanc Patron of Art Homage to Scipione Borghese Limited Edition 4810 fountain pen is inspired by the extravagance of the Villa Borghese, featuring a barrel made of granite and a cap, section, and barrel end made from ruthenium-coated brass. The conical barrel end features an ancient coin made of carnelian, while the clip is set with a crystal stone. It features an 18-karat, ruthenium-plated gold nib.
