Jimi Hendrix was already making music before 1967. In fact, after he was discharged from the Army in 1962, he worked popular performance circuits, creating albums, and even appearing on a popular television show–but 1967 was when it really started for him and his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience. A US group performing in the UK, their single “Purple Haze” climbed the charts while the album “Are You Experienced” sat at number 2, only deterred by the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.” 

Impressed by Jimi’s cover of “Sgt. Pepper” at Saville Theatre, Paul McCartney recommended the band to the organizers of the Monterey Pop Festival, which became their grand US debut. Initially unknown in their home country, the Experience introduced a new kind of rock with Jimi at the forefront dazzling audiences with various blues-inspired techniques that became the foundation of modern-day funk. 

Jimi’s career may have ended with his untimely death in 1970, but 1967 was his year of years, and this was immortalized on the Montblanc Great Characters Jimi Hendrix Special Edition fountain pen released in 2022.
