Saihi urushi utilizes raw urushi to achieve its rich color and bold texture, which only improves as time goes by. Aside from the base and the gold leafing, multiple layers of lacquer are applied—often as much as 40—to achieve its impressive finish. The process can take up to four months, excluding sanding and polishing.
