Clouds in Japan are often named after what they look like; thus, altocumulus clouds are called uroko-gumo or “fish-scale clouds”. These scalloped-shaped fluffs appear more often as seasons change, and are considered one of the heralds of autumn. In the olden times, they were also used to gauge the possibility of rain.
Uroko-gumo are often a part of classical art, especially in Edo-period pieces. They are also the inspiration for the Platinum Century 3776 Uroko-Gumo, the debut fountain pen of the Fuji Unkei series introduced in 2023. The barrel is made from clear resin with a pattern reminiscent of fish-scale clouds, contrasted by a translucent blue-gray cap symbolizing Mount Fuji. Trims are rhodium-plated, and the nib is made from 14-karat, rhodium-plated gold.
We have for sale a brand-new Platinum Century 3776 Uroko-Gumo fountain pen with an EF nib. It comes complete with its box, a converter, a cartridge, and a 20ml bottle Aka-Fuji ink, with a cap etched with Mt. Fuji and clouds.
