Pilot Urushi pens are a great introduction to Japanese urushi lacquer, which is steeped in Japanese history and tradition. Used for hundreds of years, it originates from the sap of the Urushi tree, a very sensitive material the quality of which heavily relies not only on the health of the tree itself, but also on its environment. Changes in temperature and humidity can affect the lacquer, as well as the season and the time of harvest.
Upon proper application and drying by a master artisan, urushi goes from delicate to resilient. It is impervious to minor scratches and remains durable against water, oil, and even acid and alkali. This is why Pilot Urushi pens are must-haves: not only are they beautiful writing instruments with an 18-karat gold nib, they’re also strong enough to become heirloom pieces.
For sale is a brand new Pilot Custom Urushi Vermillion with an M nib. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
