Maple wood is prized for its stunning color and gorgeous grain, and is a favored material among woodworkers. Known as “kaede” in Japan (which is also a common name in the country), this material has high resistance to abrasion and wear and has great shock resistance. Due to these factors, maple wood is often used in creating furniture and floors—including basketball courts.
