Demonstrator pens were first created as display tools for manufacturers to show how a fountain pen worked. Early versions were non-working cutaway models used purely for illustration. Over time, these evolved into fully functional pens crafted from transparent celluloid, allowing users to see the pen's internal workings in action. Originally meant for sales representatives, they quickly gained popularity among collectors and regular users. Today, demonstrators come in a wide range of colors and styles. Though purists may argue that only completely clear pens deserve the title, the term now broadly refers to any pen with a see-through body that reveals the filling system and ink chamber.
Launched in 2015, the M805 Engraved Demonstrator came a few years after the success of its M800 counterpart as an homage to the original intent of demonstrator pens. The pen features engravings throughout the entire body to identify the parts of the fountain pen – like that of salesmen identifying the parts themselves. As it’s an 805, the trims and nib are rhodium-plated.
We have for sale a pre-owned Pelikan M805 Demonstrator with an EF nib. It has very minimal micro scratches and is in good working condition. It comes complete with its box and papers. As it’s a demonstrator, it’s prone to ink staining, so always make sure to clean it regularly.
