Genbu is one of the four gods that protect each cardinal direction. He oversees the north, and is usually interpreted as a combination between a tortoise and a snake. Considered the strongest of the four deities, he is said to be able to travel between the underworld and the overworld to receive and share oracles. He is associated with water and winter, and his main shrine located in the north of Kyoto.
This mythical being is featured on the Pelikan Four Gods Series Genbu, one of four pens with a limited release in Asia. An interpretation of Genbu is hand carved on to the sterling silver barrel, which is then overlaid with 24-karat gold. An ink window is added just beneath the section, which, together with the piston knob and the cap, are made from marbled resin in deep green. The pen’s trims are gold plated, and the two-tone nib is made from 18C-750 gold.
