Said to be one of the brands Winston Churchill patronized, Onoto has been manufacturing luxury fountain pens since 1905. It produced the Onoto Magna, which was first launched in 1937 and was considered to be one of the best pens of its time. The pen was revived and expanded into the Onoto Magna Classic line in the 2010s, and it featured different designs.
A popular pick is its tortoiseshell iteration. The tortoiseshell pattern has been famously used on eyewear frames made popular by British designer Philip Oliver Goldsmith, and was translated to writing instruments. The Onoto Magna Classic Tortoiseshell fountain pen features three gold-plated sterling silver rings on its cap and the brand’s chevron clip made from the same material. Engraved on its barrel is “Onoto the Pen Made in England”.
We have for sale a new-old-stock Onoto Magna Classic Tortoiseshell fountain pen with an 18C two-tone M gold nib. It’s said to have been produced in 2013, which is the first run of the modern tortoiseshell design. First releases such as this unit are considered of higher quality by collectors and have a cleaner look compared to later releases. As this is new old stock, it comes complete with its box, papers, and converter.
