As the name connotes, the Nakaya Decapod Mini Writer Aka-Tamenuri fountain pen has 10 facets, featuring tapered ends that adds a bit of elegance to the design. With a base of ebonite, it's warm to the touch and quite durable, but adding layers of urushi makes it resistant to acids and alkalis. 

The urushi, however, is more than just a layer of protection. The tamenuri technique requires layers upon layers of lacquer, mimicking what one sees when looking into a clear lake. “Aka” means “red”, which describes the color of both the cap and the body. Aka-tamenuri results in a beautiful crimson color that offers the illusion of depth.
