We all know that The Walt Disney Company—the conglomerate that it is now—gained its traction through a mouse whistling on a steamboat. Mickey Mouse, however, wasn’t the first popular Disney character. It was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit who turned out to be unlucky for the young animation company when they lost it to Universal Studios. Mickey, who was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, would take the world by storm and help Walt build an entertainment empire and theme park empire.
Walt Disney is most remembered for his pioneering spirit. As a commemoration of his cultural legacy, Montblanc released in 2019 the Great Characters Limited Edition Walt Disney fountain pen inspired by the Disneyland Park monorail. The clip is reminiscent of the smokestack of Steamboat Willie, and touches of black, yellow, and red are nods to the color palette of Mickey. The face of the most famous mouse in the world is also engraved on its rhodium-plated gold nib.
