The Montblanc 149’s bi-color nibs were produced sometime in the late 1970s. The first few years saw them marked with “14C” (14 carats), but this changed to “14K” in the 1980s. The release of the Hemingway in 1992 initiated a more significant change: 149 nibs were produced with the tri-colorway they were first launched in, but this time using 18K gold, which resulted in the “18K” engraving. Some time in the 2010s, the mark changed to “Au750”.
Marks on Montblanc nibs are interesting as they are often used to date a pen. Today, we have for sale a Montblanc 149 with a bi-color nib (F), which places its production in the 1980s. This is a pre-owned pen with minimal micro scratches. Some of the gold on the clip has faded and there’s a bit of yellowing on the piston shaft, so do manage your expectations. We’re offering only the pen, no box of papers.
