The Montblanc 146 ran with a monotone gold nib from 1975 to 1992, until it went back to its initial bi-color nib. Unlike the 149 that later transitioned to a 18K nib, the 146 used 14K all throughout its history—but that doesn’t mean that it’s any less impressive. The 146 is a great option for those who want the Montblanc nib experience without going all-out financially with a flagship Meistertstuck, and it continues to be one of the top daily writers of pen enthusiasts.
