Made from solid 925 sterling silver, the YARD-O-LED Grand Barley fountain pen features a body with a barley pattern handcrafted using centuries-old techniques in the company’s long-standing workshop in Birmingham, UK. Its fine engravings are not only a testament to the artisans’ skills but also a way to improve grip. Newer releases feature a screw cap.
We have for sale a brand-new YARD-O-LED Grand Barley fountain pen, complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
YARD-O-LED is a centuries-old manufacturer of writing instruments based in the UK. Their story starts with the invention of the propelling pencil (now known as the mechanical pencil) by Sampson Mordan and Michael Faraday. The patented design would later be improved on by Ludwig Brenner, who made it so that the pencil would hold 12 three-inch leads, which was called YARD-O-LED. Brenner then collaborated with Frank Tufnell, whose father previously worked with Mordan, to found YARD-O-LED, the company.
