The Taj Mahal is an extravagant, marble mausoleum by the bank of the River Yamuna in India. It was commissioned by Shah Jahan I, Emperor of the Mughal Empire, as the tomb of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal who passed away due to postpartum hemorrhage. A blend of Indo-Islamic and Mughal architecture, it is considered one of the most beautiful, complicated, and expensive structures ever made, employing perfect symmetry, geometric design, and Arabic calligraphy. To this day, it is considered a symbol of eternal love.
The Visconti Taj Mahal is an effort to recreate this beautiful monument. Released in 1996 as a limited edition of only 888 units, it is a large pen with intricate filigree overlay. The overlay is made from thin, silver wires that have been handwoven prior to installation so that it is true filigree, raised from the pen’s black body and not embedded on it. The shape of the cap’s top and the barrel’s bottom have been taken from the pillars of the ancient structure. Even the box that it comes in has been painstakingly made from briarwood and showcases latticework.
While the pen is truly a work of art, it of course writes well. It is a vacuum filler, and the bottom of the barrel can be pulled out to reveal a plunger. It is installed with a two-tone, 18-karat gold nib.
We have for sale a New Old Stock Visconti Taj Mahal fountain pen with an M nib. It comes complete with its outer box, inner wooden box, leather case, guarantee manual, and warranty certificate.
