Taccia Hyakko-Hisho Hoshikage

Hyakko-Hisho takes its name from a historically important collection of Japanese craft references compiled during the Edo period. Bringing together techniques and materials from traditional crafts such as lacquer, wood, metalwork, textiles, and bamboo, the collection preserved a valuable record of Japanese craftsmanship for later generations. 

Inspired by that history, TACCIA created the Hyakko-Hisho series of urushi fountain pens. The designs also draw inspiration from decorative sword scabbards carried by Samurai, translating traditional Japanese craft techniques into contemporary writing instruments. Hoshikage belongs to the second Hyakko-Hisho series and is limited to only 50 pieces. 

The Hoshikage is crafted from ebonite and finished with Kawari-Nuri urushi and raden. Iridescent shell is incorporated beneath layers of lacquer and carefully polished to reveal shimmering blue and multicolored details across the darker surface. As the pen moves under different lighting, the raden catches the light differently, giving the finish its distinctive depth and character. 

Completing the pen is a Sailor-made 14K gold nib in Medium, marked H-M, paired with a cartridge/converter filling system. Each Hyakko-Hisho II is individually crafted, bringing together traditional lacquer work, natural variations in raden, and a highly limited production run.
