The original 2010 Sailor Pro Gear Sakura Nagare Raden is more than just a pen. It is a symbol of remembrance and an acknowledgement of history–a special concession from the then Japanese Prime Minister to the veterans deployed overseas during the Second World War who were denied their pension. The urushi-finished pen features cherry blossoms of mother-of-pearl floating down a winding river of powdered gold.
But while the design itself is remarkable, the symbolism behind it adds to its melancholy beauty. Inspired by a saké and poetry game called “Kyokusui no En” played during flower-viewing festivals, the pen symbolizes the joys of fleeting youth that soldiers were not allowed to experience as they were ordered to march into war. A masterpiece that has taken more than eight months to create, the Sakura Nagare is indeed more than just a pen.
We have for sale one from the first and only run of this special concession line. This pre-owned pen has a 21K gold nib in H-M and 18K gold trims. We’re offering only the pen, no box or papers.
