A popular theme in traditional Japanese art is “oshidor”, or mandarin ducks. Often depicted in pairs on woodblock prints, paintings, manuscripts, and even clothes, oshidori are symbols of love, loyalty, and prosperity. A devoted relationship between a husband and wife is called “oshidori-fūfu”, inspired by these creatures that mate for life.
Artisan Kosen Oshita interprets the beauty of mandarin ducks on the Sailor 1911L Maki-e Oshidori fountain pen. Released in the early 2000s, this pen features two ducks on a pond in strokes of gold and red on a highly polished resin body. It comes with gold-plated trims and a 14-karat gold nib.
