Hard maple is valued for its clean grain and warm, natural character. For its Hard Maple Fountain Pen, Sailor gives the material a contemporary treatment through WPC, or Wood Plastic Combination, a process that penetrates the wood with plastic particles while retaining the distinctive texture and appearance of the natural maple. 

A unique coloring technique and frosted finish further highlight the material. In the Natural version, the understated tone and plain grain of maple remain at the forefront, allowing the individual character of the wood to become part of the pen’s design. 

The Hard Maple cap and barrel are paired with a brass gripping section finished with Gold Ion Plating, creating a refined contrast against the lighter natural wood. Completing the pen is Sailor’s large 21K gold nib, offered in Medium Fine for this model and paired with the brand’s cartridge/converter filling system.
