Kaga Maki-e is a Japanese lacquering technique from Kanazawa City, the country’s top producer of gold leaf. With a rich crafting history dating back to the 1600s, Kaga Maki-e features some of the most precise designs and ornamental methods, utilizing a combination of techniques including Hira Maki-e (flat maki-e) and Shishiai Togidashi Maki-e (combined raised and burnished maki-e), among others.
The beauty of Kaga Maki-e is seen on the Platinum Izumo Kaga Maki-e Hama no Matsu fountain pen crafted by maki-e master Sohkou Ooshita. It features hama no matsu (shore pine), a tree that symbolizes strength and steadfastness, with different maki-e techniques executed on several layers of urushi.
We have for sale a Platinum Izumo Kaga Maki-e Hama no Matsu fountain pen (model PIZ-50000), complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
