Platinum Izumo Kaga Maki-e Hama no Matsu PIZ-30000

Sohkou Ooshita is a maki-e master and the fourth-generation head of the Ooshita family’s lacquer tradition. He established the Oshita Kosen Atelier in 1979, creating relationships not just with merchants but also with cooperatives, the academe, and even with royalty. Through the years, the Atelier formed partnerships with different companies, including fountain pen brands such as Sailor and Platinum. As an artist, Sohkou Ooshita worked on high-end Platinum fountain pens, including the Izumo Taka Maki-e Galaxy Starlight, the Izumo Kaga Taka-Makie Takinsansui, and the Izumo Kaga Maki-e Hama no Matsu. 

Featuring the shore pine, the Izumo Kaga Maki-e Hama no Matsu uses several maki-e techniques that offer the design in intricate layers, producing unique textures for both sight and touch. The design had several iterations: model PIZ-30000 reflects a rich black lacquered background more than model PIZ-50000, offering a wonderful contrast.
