Platinum’s 3776 Century line has many sets, including those that feature Kaga hira maki-e. Kanazawa, also known for its gold leaf industry, is home to Kaga maki-e, with a history dating back to the 1600s. Developed from Kaga maki-e were techniques such as shishiai togidashi maki-e (combined raised and burnished maki-e) and hira maki-e (flat maki-e).
Platinum’s series featuring Kaga hira maki-e is a homage to the Kaga maki-e lacquering tradition. These urushi pens are part of the special materials collection that does away with bands and rings to highlight flowing designs from cap to barrel.
The Kaga Hira Maki-e series includes three pens: #40 Sakura (Cherry Blossom), #84 Sansui (Water and Countryside), and #82 Senmen (Fans). The latter features unfurled fans and blossoms.
