Maki-e techniques developed through many centuries and resulted in different forms and styles. One of them is Togidashi Maki-e. For Pilot and Namiki fountain pens, Togidashi Maki-e means utilizing Hira Maki-e techniques for the main design before adding a layer of urushi lacquer, which is then burnished with charcoal after drying. The result is a beautiful pen with an intricate design highlighted by speckles of gold and silver.
These techniques were utilized on the Pilot-Namiki Yukari Maki-e Double Crane fountain pen. In Japan, cranes are considered to be creatures close to the gods. They are also believed to symbolize happiness, longevity, and good fortune.
We have for sale a rare, discontinued Pilot-Namiki Yukari Maki-e Double Crane fountain pen. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
