The Japanese crane is one of the largest birds in the world, with a wingspan of approximately two meters. They are monogamous and often mate for life, which is why they’re seen as symbols of loyalty. They’re also linked to luck and longevity, and it is said that patiently folding 1,000 paper cranes can make one’s wish come true. 

This elegant bird is featured on the Pilot Hira Maki-e Crane fountain pen. Hira Maki-e, or “flat maki-e”, is a technique that results in gold-sprinkled designs that are flush flat on the surface and layered with urushi.
