Prussian Blue (Preussisch Blau) is a color that is a staple among many famous artists. “The Entombment of Christ” by Pieter van der Werff (1709) was said to be the oldest painting that had it. It was also used by the famous Japanese woodblock master Hokusai, who created “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”. Prussian Blue figured heavily in Vincent Van Gogh’s work “The Starry Night”, while Pablo Picasso used it often in his paintings during the “Blue Period”.
The color has only been recently introduced to the Custom Urushi line with the Pilot Custom Urushi Prussian Blue, which required the pigment to be carefully mixed with Japanese lacquer in order to achieve a beautiful finish. This ebonite pen features a #30 18-karat gold nib and gold-plated trims.
