Urushi (Japanese lacquer) is created from the sap of the urushi tree that can be found in many regions of Asia. The sap is very delicate, and its quality depends not only on the tree itself and where it’s planted, but also on the time of day and the year it was harvested. After application, patience is needed for it to completely dry and harden, and when it hardens, it becomes resistant to acids and alkalis.
