The Pilot Custom 845 brings together two of the brand’s most distinctive elements: a large gold nib designed for expressive everyday writing and traditional Japanese urushi craftsmanship applied over an ebonite body.
In 2025, Pilot expanded the Custom 845 line with a new deep blue color known in Japanese as “Konjo.” Joining the established black and vermilion finishes, the rich blue gives the model a distinctly different character while retaining the classic gold trim and traditional lacquer work associated with the Custom 845.
The cap and barrel are turned from ebonite and finished with glossy Roiro urushi lacquer. This traditional finishing process creates the deep, lustrous surface that gives urushi its characteristic visual depth while allowing the dark blue tone to appear richer as it catches the light.
Gold-tone fittings provide a warm contrast against the deep blue lacquer, while the cap is topped with a gold-tone finial and Pilot’s signature arrow-style clip. The overall design remains restrained, allowing the lacquered ebonite construction to remain the focal point.
Completing the pen is Pilot’s large No. 15 bicolor nib crafted from 18K gold. We currently have the Custom 845 Deep Blue available in both Fine and Broad nib sizes. The pen uses Pilot’s cartridge/converter filling system and comes with a CON-70N converter for use with bottled ink.
We have for sale a brand-new Pilot Custom 845 Urushi Deep Blue Fountain Pen with an 18K gold nib, available in Fine and Broad. It comes complete with its box, papers, CON-70N converter, and other original accessories.
