Pilot Custom 743 Black (SU)

Pilot introduced the Custom 743 in 1993 alongside the Custom 742, building upon the Custom 74 with a considerably larger No. 15 gold nib for a more substantial and stable writing experience. Over the years, the 743 has become one of the most versatile models in Pilot’s CUSTOM series, offering an extensive selection of nibs designed around different handwriting styles and purposes. 

This particular Custom 743 is fitted with Pilot’s Stub, or SU, nib. Unlike a conventional rounded nib that produces a relatively consistent line in every direction, the SU creates broader vertical strokes and thinner horizontal strokes, adding natural variation and character to handwriting. Pilot recommends using it at a fairly upright angle, making it especially appealing for writers who enjoy expressive lettering without moving into a highly specialized calligraphy nib.
