Pilot Custom 743 Black (SF)

Pilot introduced the Custom 743 in 1993 alongside the Custom 742, expanding upon the Custom 74 with larger gold nibs for a more substantial and stable writing experience. While the 742 received Pilot’s No. 10 nib, the 743 stepped up to the considerably larger No. 15, giving the pen the relaxed, supple writing character that continues to distinguish it within the CUSTOM series today. 

One of the Custom 743’s greatest strengths is the variety of writing experiences available through its extensive nib selection. This particular example carries Pilot’s Soft Fine, or SF, nib. Unlike the firmer standard Fine, the SF is designed with a softer, more cushioned feel under light writing pressure, allowing subtle variation in line width and giving handwriting a little more expression without moving into the extreme flexibility of a specialty calligraphy nib. 

Finished in glossy black resin with traditional gold-toned accents, the Custom 743 keeps its appearance restrained and timeless, letting its oversized No. 15 nib take center stage.
