Pilot Custom 742 Black (WA)

Pilot introduced the Custom 742 in 1993 as a larger-nib evolution of the Custom 74, fitting it with a No. 10 gold nib to provide a more stable and substantial writing experience. Over the years, the model has grown into one of the most versatile pens in the CUSTOM series, with an extensive selection of nibs designed around different handwriting styles, writing pressures, and purposes. 

This particular Custom 742 carries one of Pilot’s more distinctive specialty nibs: the Waverly, or WA. Its tip curves gently upward, a design intended to make the nib comfortable and easy to use across a wide range of writing angles. Pilot classifies it as a medium-writing nib and recommends it for correspondence and slightly larger handwriting, making it particularly appealing to writers whose pen angle naturally changes as they move across the page.
