Pilot Custom 742 Black (SM)

Pilot introduced the Custom 742 in 1993 as a larger-nib evolution of the Custom 74, fitting it with a No. 10 gold nib to create a more stable and substantial writing experience. Over the years, the 742 has developed into one of the most versatile models in the CUSTOM family, with 16 different nib options designed around different handwriting styles, writing pressures, and purposes. 

This particular Custom 742 is fitted with Pilot’s Soft Medium, or SM, nib. Unlike the firmer standard Medium, the SM is designed with a softer, cushioned writing feel that makes subtle variations in line width easier to achieve. Pilot recommends it particularly for writers with lighter pen pressure and for those who naturally hold their pen at a more relaxed, slanted angle.
