Pilot Capless Matte Black

Pilot introduced the Capless in 1963 as a fountain pen built around an unusual concept: an 18K gold nib that retracts completely into the body at the push of a button. Instead of using a conventional removable cap, an internal shutter closes when the nib is retracted to help prevent the ink from drying out. 

Introduced in 2010, the Black Matte version gives the Capless an especially understated appearance. Its body and fittings are finished almost entirely in black, creating a clean, monochromatic interpretation of Pilot’s iconic retractable fountain pen. 

The barrel is constructed from brass and finished in matte black, giving the pen a substantial feel in the hand. Its stainless-steel head and steel clip continue the black treatment, maintaining the streamlined appearance from the knock button to the writing end.
