“Kintsugi” is the art of putting broken items back together using urushi and powdered gold or silver, a technique similar to maki-e. More than the idea of “waste not, want not,” this practice of mindfulness and wabi-sabi reflects the belief that what is broken can be restored and made even more beautiful. 

“Kintsugi” is the inspiration for the Pilot Capless LE Golden Journey 2026 fountain pen, which features a pearl blue barrel with flowing gold lines that mimic restored cracks. It has a lacquered metal body, gold-plated trims, and an 18-karat, retractable gold nib. 

Every year since 2003, Pilot has launched a limited-edition Capless fountain pen with the number of units produced based on the year of release. So for 2026, global markets only have 2,026 units of this limited-edition release to chase.
