Pelikan M900 Toledo

The ancient steel decorating technique of damascening came from Damascus and traveled to Toledo, where it’s still practiced today. It requires etching ornamentation before layering the material with gold or silver. The blended metals are then heated to produce an embossed effect where the steel blackens to contrast and lift the gold or silver areas. 

This technique was used on the gold-finished, 925 sterling silver barrel sheath of the Pelikan M900 Toledo released in the ‘90s, which features an intricate pelican design: one motif with a single bird, and another with two. It is finished with a black resin cap, section, and piston knob and is highlighted with gold-plated trims. A translucent green ink window sits just before the section and directs the eyes towards a two-tone, 18-karat gold nib.
