Pelikan M800 Burnt Orange

Pelikan’s Souverän M800 has long been one of the German brand’s defining fountain pens, combining substantial proportions with the differential piston mechanism that has become synonymous with Pelikan. In 2015, the company gave the familiar M800 silhouette a particularly warm transformation with the Burnt Orange Special Edition, a release that Pelikan later counted among the highlights of its fine writing instrument collection that year. 

The Burnt Orange takes its character from the contrast between a rich orange barrel and deep brown components. Pelikan described the warm orange tone as being perfectly complemented by the dark brown cap, grip section, and piston knob, creating a palette that feels both bold and distinctly autumnal. The high-grade resin components are carefully turned and polished to a high-gloss finish, allowing the saturated colors to take center stage. 

Gold-plated rings and Pelikan’s signature beak-shaped clip add a traditional Souverän touch to the warmer color scheme. At the writing end is an 18-karat / 750 two-tone gold nib decorated with rhodium, while the M800’s brass differential piston mechanism gives the pen the substantial feel for which the larger Souverän is known. Unusually for an M800, the solid Burnt Orange barrel does not incorporate an ink-view window.
