The kirin is a highly revered mystical creature in Japan, resembling a deer with dragon scales. It is considered a holy, gentle deity that only appears in times of peace, heralding a golden age. It carefully walks without trampling a single blade of grass, and it never harms any creature, but breathes holy when threatened. In China, it’s called “qilin” and was said to have appeared in the gardens of the mythical Yellow Emperor.
The kirin is featured on the barrel of the Pelikan M800 Kirin from the Asia Limited Edition series released in 2002. The barrel is made of sterling silver overlain with gold, intricately hand-carved with the deity’s likeness. The piston knob, cap, and section are made from yellow resin and complement the translucent yellow ink window. Trims are gold-plated, and the two-tone nib is made from 18-karat gold.
Only 888 units of this pen were ever released, and we have one of them available. For sale is a rare, brand-new Pelikan M800 Asia Limited Edition Kirin with an M nib. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
