Pelikan’s tortoiseshell designs have somehow always hit the spot for many fountain pen enthusiasts. Makers don’t use actual shells from tortoises because it is illegal, but the German pen company has perfected the craft of emulating the pattern through cellulose acetate.
One of their most interesting tortoiseshell finishes is the M600 Tortoiseshell Red (2020). It features a cap and section with a gorgeous shade of deep red, and a barrel of blended reds, oranges, yellows, and pinks bordered by uneven black stripes. While the line variety may seem random, it only adds to the design's interesting, almost sketch-like feel.
As with most M600s, this pen features a two-tone, 14K-585 gold nib. There is no ink window, but the pen’s stunning look may help one overlook this omission.
We have for sale a pre-owned Pelikan M600 Tortoiseshell Red with an EF nib. It comes complete with its box and papers.
