The sun has very deep and significant ties to Japanese culture. The kanji for Japan is directly translated as “the sun’s origin”. Shinto, the indigenous religion of the country, reveres the sun goddess Amaterasu, from whom the imperial family is said to have descended from. Hatsuhinode is the act of watching the first sunrise of the new year and is considered a celebration of hope and renewal.
Inspired by the fiery display that signals the start of the day, Pelikan released the M1000 Raden Sunrise. Released in 2016, this limited-edition fountain pen features fine strips of raden taken from abalone and inlaid against a beautiful shade of red, which reminds one of the sun peaking through the clouds at the break of dawn.
We have for sale a Pelikan M1000 Raden Sunrise with a two-tone 18C-750 gold nib in M and gold-plated trims. This piston-filler fountain pen comes complete with its paulownia wood gift box, papers, and other inserts.
