Nami to chidori (wave and plover) is a common theme in traditional Japanese art. Plovers are small birds often seen along Japan’s shorelines during winter. Classic poetry often tied them to melancholy, but later works transformed them into auspicious symbols.
Taken as a snapshot, a plover gliding over the sea and braving harsh waves and temperatures became an image of resilience. It is depicted on the Namiki Yukari Wave and Plover with a soft, atmospheric execution that showcases the skill and restraint of artisan Seiki using the Togidashi (burnished) Maki-e technique.
We have for sale a brand-new Namiki Yukari Wave and Plover fountain pen that comes with its box, no papers.
