Fireflies (“hotaru”) are deeply rooted in Japanese culture, symbolizing fleeting beauty and, at times, the souls of the departed. As these creatures often appear when days grow warm, they are also heralds of summer’s arrival. From June to around July, Hotaru-gari (Firefly Viewing) events are held in different nature parks to appreciate these tiny light-bringers.
Taking inspiration from hotaru, the Namiki Yukari Firefly Raden fountain pen features them and their gentle glow against swaths of grass made from gold and mother-of-pearl, backdropped by black lacquer. This intricate piece was created by artisans Kazuo, Masato, and Mamoru, who employed Raden and Togidashi Maki-e techniques.
We have for sale a brand-new Namiki Yukari Firefly Raden with a No. 10, 18-karat gold nib in F. It comes complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
