Namiki Yukari Bamboo

The bamboo is considered a symbol of prosperity in Japan. As it is both flexible and sturdy, it represents strength, simplicity, and modesty. It also appears in much folklore and is used in many celebrations to ward off evil, such as during Tanabata or the “Star Festival", which usually happens on July 7. 

This traditional symbol is highlighted on the Namiki Yukari Bamboo. Created by Kokkokai artisans Kayo, Mamoru, and Chiren, this cigar-shaped fountain pen features Togidashi Maki-e (Burnished-Raised Maki-e), an advanced technique that requires several steps of lacquer layering, gold dusting, charcoal scraping, oil rubbing, and complete drying. It has a gold-colored clip engraved with “Namiki” and is installed with a No. 10, 18-karat gold nib.
