Kendama is a traditional Japanese toy with a handle (“ken”), a cross-piece of two cups (“saradou”), and a ball (“tama”). The ball, which rests on a spike, is tied to a string. The goal is to toss the ball into the air and catch it with the spike. Said to have originated sometime in the 17th to the 18th century, the game has evolved over the years and is now classified as competitive. Its largest competition is the Kendama World Cup held yearly in Japan.

The kendama is the inspiration for the Namiki Nippon Art Toy Kendama fountain pen, which uses the Hira Maki-e technique to highlight the design’s playful vibrancy against a shiny black background.

For sale is a brand-new Namiki Nippon Art Toy Daruma Otoshi fountain pen with a 14-karat gold nib in B. It comes complete with its box, papers, and converter.
