Voltaire was a philosopher and an activist, but what he was truly famous for was being a writer. Considered as one of the greatest and most prolific French authors of all time, he was known for the satirical novella “Candide, ou l'Optimisme”, which talks about the dangers of religious fanaticism and unfettered optimism while also giving insights on creating one’s own happiness. As an activist, he championed civil liberties and promoted religious tolerance, putting him at odds with the authorities but turning him into a literary leader during Europe’s Age of Enlightenment.
Voltaire was a change-maker, and in honor of his efforts, Montblanc released the Writers Edition Voltaire fountain pen in 1995, a pen with a flat-ended barrel and a domed cap end. While the barrel looks fairly simple with a thin gold vermeil ring near the end and an ink window near the section, the cap features a thicker ring of curlicue patterns in gold vermeil near the top, reminiscent of the decorative borders on Voltaire’s original books. One one side is the Montblanc branding and the author’s signature. The 18-karat gold nib also features ornate engravings.
We have for sale a Montblanc Writers Edition Voltaire with an M nib. It’s in near mint condition and comes complete with its box, papers, and other inserts.
